My name is David Kemp, and I'm a fully qualified acupuncture specialist and trained massage therapist. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree (First Class) in Acupuncture awarded by the University of East London, and a Certificate of Clinical Training from the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from when I trained in China. My personal goal is to offer an affordable alternative to long waiting lists and overloaded staff.

I feel that people need to be heard, especially when not feeling so well, and so always take the time necessary for patients to feel that they have been listenened to. Acupuncture can really help with back pain, especially chronic pain and sciatica, and is now recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence. Acupuncture can be a useful resourse in the treatment programme for many sports-related injuries, as well as other types of musculo-skeletal problems.

Moxibustion is unique to Chinese Traditional Acupuncture, and involves warming the meridians to add energy to specific areas of the body, either indirectly via the needles, or by holding a stick of moxa over the affected area.
The heat helps to improve local circulation.
At Maldon Acupuncture we use a smokeless form of moxa, or if warming a larger area we use an infra red heat lamp.
Western Medical Acupuncture is a modern-day version of a traditional treatment process.
WMA uses a different basis for the use of acupuncture, preferring the language of modern medicine instead of the concepts usually associated with Traditional Acupuncture.
Medical acupuncture is used primarily for acupuncture analgesia, including musculo-skeletal pain, and post-surgical pain.
One of the main differences between WMA and Traditional acupuncture is the length of training involved.
Most practitioners of WMA have had a short 5-day training, as opposed to the 3 year full-time training of almost all Traditional Acupuncture therapists.

Due to it's unique healing properties, acupuncture can often make a difference when more conventional treatments fail to give any lasting benefit.
When the body experiences chronic pain, certain regions of the neurological system may become super-sensitive to the effects of the painful stimulation, making the injured area seem even more problematic.
Acupuncture can be a useful resourse in the treatment programme for many sports-related injuries, as well as other types of musculo-skeletal problems.
Used alongside remedial or sports massage, specialised stretching techniques and joint manipulation, acupuncture is thought to help with soft tissue damage by increasing the local blood flow to the injury site, reducing inflammation and speeding up recovery.
In addition, the well-known pain relieving effects of acupuncture can be a welcome blessing.
Acupuncture has long been used in China to help women with fertility problems.
In general, we take a detailed case history, making note of things like variations in the monthly cycle as this is a good place to start.
Once a regular cycle has been established, we can start to include other factors, with the aim of providing the right conditions for pregnancy to occur.
Acupuncture is safe to use alongside conventional treatments, and has been shown to help improve implantation rates during IVF cycles.
