Services
Massage is the therapeutic application of touch using a range of movements or strokes upon the skin, muscles and joints.
It is an ancient discipline with many technical variations based on different philosophies and practices originating from both western and eastern cultures.
It has significant benefits for all of the body's essential systems, it maintains our general health, fitness, flexibility, complements traditional medicine in the treatment of specific conditions and symptoms, and remediates against future injuries.
Sports Massage seeks to prepare the athlete for optimum performance, to reduce the potential for injury and to help remediate some of the physical and physiological stresses created during exercise.
Sports Massage may be used before, between and after athletic events (the type of massage for each is, of course, slightly different).
The most prevelent use of sports massage is in the prevention and treatment of injuries.
For example, you may have heard of such terms as 'Tennis Elbow ', 'Shin Splints', 'Carpel and Tarsel Tunnel Syndrome', 'Tendonitis', 'Frozen Shoulder' or 'Runner's Knee'- just a few of the many conditions sports massage is capable of treating.
General Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) uses special techniques to encourage the drainage of fluid (Lymph) within the lymphatic system.
These techniques are particularly useful for relaxation and stress release, to clear waste and fluid from the system, and for fluid retention, swelling (oedema) and cellulite.
MLD uses very gentle massage movements without the use of a medium, such as oil.
Typically, each treatment session is short but will involve multiple treatments.
The additional benefit of MLD is that it is also relaxing!
Ayurveda is recorded as the worlds oldest Indian healing system.
The word Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit: Ayur meaning Life and Veda meaning Knowledge.
The aim of Ayurveda is to promote positive health, beauty and long life through a state of balance between the five elements of life and the material world: Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth.
Each person is made of these elements, their physical, emotional and spiritual being, which are described in three distinct types or doshas: Vata, which is composed of Space and Air, Pitta, which is of Fire and Water, and Kapha, of Earth and Water.
