I'm Derek Golightly, and this website is where I explain about the kind of massage I provide and its benefits. Promote Relaxation and Wellness: This is done mostly by smooth stroking and needing of muscles, which has the effect of relaxing the muscles, and moving fluids through tissues. This helps them to heal and promotes 'wellness'. Address Specific Health Complaints: This is done mainly by the use of various stretching techniques, targeted pressure, and stroking and needing.

These release muscle spasm and improves the condition of the muscles. Enhance Posture, Movement and Body Awareness: This involves the analysis of the client's posture, and the use of stretching and muscle strengthening techniques. The client may be advised to do some gentle exercises that are directed at specific goals. Massage also helps sports enthusiasts keep their muscles in good shape and so avoid injury!
Services
Remedial & Sports Massage is aimed at preventing problems as well as alleviating problems.
By improving the flow of bodily fluids through the muscles and other tissues, massage promotes healing.
In this way, it helps the normal healing processes that operate constantly in our bodies.
So, minor issues are alleviated before they develop into problems.
You will feel "looser" and generally more at ease.
This may seem like a strange statement, because when you've got a headache, all your focus is on your head.
However, the fact is that the neck muscles have a lot of "trigger points" that refer pain into the head.
When these muscles are congested, their trigger points are often activated.
By releasing the tension in the muscles, their trigger points are de-activated, and so the pain disappears.
It is also worth noting that headaches can come and go because your muscle tension varies from day to day.
After a significant injury to (say) the lumbar spine, it is common for the thoracic spine (at the level of the ribcage) to become more and more bent over.
This is due partly to the pain in the lower back leading to you feeling debilitated and 'down'.
It is also partly due to the normal human response where we change our posture to try to relieve the pain.
The bending over of the thoracic spine leads in turn to the cervical spine (neck) becoming more and more bent backwards to compensate.
This can lead to frequent headaches.
There are lots of reasons why you might have knee pain.
Whatever the cause of the problem, if left too long, a serious problem of wear on the cartilage of the joint can develop.
It is much better to sort out the problem while it is still only an irritation.
Sometimes this is just a matter of identifying weak muscles and strengthening them.
Sounds easy huh?
But this is often the hard part.
I often come across people where they've been advised to strengthen their VMO (Vastus Medialis Obliquus), when actually it was something else.
If your pelvis is tilted forwards it will cause the curve in your lower back to be exaggerated, and this in turn can cause the gaps in your spine where the nerves exit the spinal column to be reduced.
Thus the nerves can be impinged as they exit the spinal column.
Very often this results in sharp pain into the lower back and/or the legs.
The solution is to correct the tilt in your pelvis.
The underlying cause of the tilt is virtually always a muscle imbalance.
So, fix the muscle imbalance, and the pelvis tilts back to where it should be, and the pain goes away.
