Sports therapy massage, deep tissue massage and therapeutic Chinese cupping by GB Massage. Massage is a form of structured touch designed to enhance the body's function, aid healing and promote relaxation and well-being. The Touch Research Institute in Miami has been validating and quantifying the positive effects of touch on our health and well-being since 1982.

You can link to their newsletter here for more information. Massage may be categorised as a form of alternative or complementary therapy. A complementary therapy is one that can be used alongside conventional medical treatments. For example, oncology massage may be used alongside other medical treatments to help people who have cancer. An alternative therapy is one used instead of conventional medical intervention.

People may choose to use massage as an alternative therapy when they have a muscular injury, such as a sprain or a strain, instead of visiting their GP. There are many different types and styles of massage and they are all designed to positively influence the body by acting upon it.
Services
Massage is a unique and powerful restorative practice.
With a carefully structured approach, skilled therapists can provide huge benefits for their clients, both for the mind and the body.
There are many different types and styles of massage, all designed to relieve pain and promote healing.
Whichever form you and your therapist decide is appropriate for your circumstance, it is realistic to assume that you will adopt a largely passive role while the therapist 'treats' the soft tissues of your body.
Deep tissue massage involves warming the areas to be treated and then, as the name suggests, providing a firm massage at a consistent pace and depth.
The pace of the massage is relatively slow and often in time with the breath.
Deep tissue massage is very effective at working below the superficial level to release chronic tension.
The intention behind deep tissue massage is to disrupt habitual postures and remind our bodies to rest, unwind and that it is possible, for example, to go through the day with relaxed shoulders.
The principle behind cupping is that as tissue is lifted, fresh blood, full of nutrients and oxygen, rushes to the areas being worked on.
This creates a feeling of warmth and a relief from tension.
While massage compresses tissues, cupping lifts them.
An oil is applied to the skin which facilitates moving the cups.
The cups are placed on the oiled skin and using a pump the air is removed from inside the cup; creating a vacuum that lifts the skin.
The cups are then either moved or they can be left static for a few minutes, over particularly tense areas.

Since 2015, I have worked at many running and cycling events in and around Norwich, including the Norwich Half Marathon, various cycle sportives for Pedal Revolution, Run Norwich and the Beccles Triathlon.
In my experience, it is after their event that people they feel they need a massage the most and it is often those who come in towards the end who really need a massage.
I believe that it's important to have someone there at the finish to recognise each individual's efforts and achievement and to admire their medal or certificate.
